Extra buses will be running this weekend to take people to the Celebration at the Station and fireworks display at Liberty Memorial.
With an estimated 50,000 people heading for the popular event, the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority is offering more frequent service on its Main Street MAX bus rapid transit line on Sunday.
The free outdoor concert featuring the Kansas City Symphony starts at 8 p.m. between Union Station and Liberty Memorial. The Symphony, led by Music Director Michael Stern, will perform patriotic favorites against the backdrop of Kansas City’s historic Union Station. The fireworks display begins after the concert.
Here are details from the KCATA:
• From 5 p.m. until the start of the concert, MAX will increase its service, operating every 15 minutes instead of every 30 minutes between the Waldo Park-and-Ride and the 3rd & Grand Park-and-Ride.
• After the fireworks display, MAX buses will be waiting to serve concertgoers on the return trip.
• Customers traveling to Celebration at the Station can catch and can get off the bus at Pershing & Main.
• Regular fare on MAX and Metro buses is $1.50.
