Drug Take-Back Day returns to Midtown on Saturday

drug-take-backThe popular drug take back day is coming up Saturday at MainCor, 3215 Main Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It is a chance to get rid of expired drugs safety and keep them out of the water system. Turning in expired drugs also keeps them out of the hands of those who don’t need them.

The event is a joint project of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Kansas City Police Department’s Central Patrol and the Main Street Corridor Development Corporation/Main Street Community Improvement District.

Sponsors say unused, unneeded, expired drugs –prescription and non-prescription pills, liquids, powders – are dangerous if disposed of incorrectly.  Putting them in the trash can result in the drugs being stolen by those looking for such drugs and in a landfill, they eventually break down and become part of the environment.  Flushing them down the toilet puts them directly into drinking water.

They encourage people to turn them in at take-back events where they will be properly handled.
