District to consider sale of Blenheim school

blenheimThe school board will take up the potential sale of another school, Blenheim, to a developer for reuse as senior affordable housing.

According to the district, the board will consider a proposal from the Sunflower Development Group at its next board meeting on Wednesday, July 23rd.

Sunflower is redeveloping the Faxon school site and has completed other historic renovation projects. The district says if the sale of Blenheim is approved, it will be contingent on Sunflower getting low income housing tax credit financing from the state.

Sunflower will also be required to hold two public meetings before it goes to the City Plan Commission, to ensure the Blenheim neighborhood has an opportunity to be involved in the process.

Blenheim school is located at 2411 E. 70th Terrace. It was built in 1924.

According to the repurposing website, the school district approved the sale of Blenheim in May 2012 for development of a health clinic and senior housing, but the sale was terminated after the health clinic partner pulled out of the project.
