Construction crews have been working at DeLaSalle Education Center, 3740 Forest, for the past month. They’re building an addition to the existing high school. When it’s completed, the school will have a new Troost address.

DeLaSalle Education Center is buzzing with activity as construction on a $6.2 million dollar expansion and renovation continues.

The school says the improvements will create a greater sense of belonging for students and contribute to the revitalization of Troost Avenue and the urban core.

Construction began a month ago. It includes a new addition that will connect to the existing high school building on the northwest side. It will expand current space by 18,000 square feet and also includes upgrades to the existing facility.

DeLaSalle serves Jackson County students who have not been successful in traditional schools, those who have had encounters with the legal system, and those who have dropped out of school.

The project is expected to be completed by the 2013-2014 school year.
