The Public Works Department says look out for people selling red trash bags door to door. Although a number of residents have purchased the red bags, they cannot be used for the disposal of household garbage.
In fact, red trash bags are normally used to dispose of hazardous biological waste, which cannot be collected by City crews on the curb.
“Very specific disposal methods have to be used for biological waste, and private services contract with individuals for biological waste disposal,” said Michael Shaw, Solid Waste Services manager. “We can’t just throw it in the landfill.”
