Much of Midtown is in the 4th council district, as seen on this map, but all residents are invited to give input into the replacement for 5th District Councilman Michael Brooks.

A community meeting tomorrow will allow Kansas City residents to have input into the appointment of a council member to replace 5th District Councilman Michael Brooks, who has resigned.

Mayor Sly James has appointed a citizens commission to help fill the vacancy by making three recommendations of candidates for the city council to interview.

Residents who want to help in the process are invited to participate in a community meeting “to provide input regarding the questions and issues that may be included as part of the upcoming candidate interviews to fill the 5th district Council vacancy,” according to a city notification.

Residents who are unable to attend the community meeting may provide input by email at fifthdistrictinterim@kcmo.org or by leaving a hotline message at 816-513-6450. The email and hotline will remain open through 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12th.
