City tree inventory reaches 135,500

untitled-(3-of-55)-2The city has just counted up all of its trees, subtracting those lost through construction, redevelopment, disease or storm damage and adding those newly planted.

And the grand total is 135,500 trees in the publicly-owned developed areas of the city

The total includes 8248 added to the city tree inventory.  It also includes 1408 ash trees that have been added to the city’s Emerald Ash Borer protection program.

The last time the city did a tree inventory was 2001.

Since then, some trees have been lost, and the survey says new trees have been planted through new residential developments, urban renewal projects, and on-going developments.
