City offers free HPV vaccine for young people

The city health department is offering free Human Papilloma Virus vaccine for men and women between 19 and 25 years of age.

The HPV vaccine is a series of three shots over six months and can help prevent certain cancers and genital warts.

The shots normally cost between $60 and $165.

“We are able to start at least 600 people in the vaccine program through this September,” said Ron Griffin, manager of the Communicable Disease Prevention and Public Health Preparedness Division. “The sooner young adults are vaccinated, the sooner they are protected. “
