The city says the cost of operating its tow lot is increasing, so it is raising the rates you’ll pay if towed.
Beginning July 1, the rates will increase by $40. That means a regular tow (for a vehicle up to 10,000 pounds) will increase to $240. Rates for medium tows (10,001 to 26,000 pounds) increase to $340 and heavy tow rates (over 26,00 pounds or if special equipment is needed for towing) increase to $415. Additional storage fees may also apply depending on how long the vehicle is in the tow lot.
According to AutoReturn, a national municipal tow management company, Kansas City’s increased rates are still competitive with other Midwest tow fees.
