Citizen survey: Happy trails and bike lanes

bikeAs the city has expanded bicycle and hiking options, citizens have been far more satisfied with them.

Only 37 percent said they were satisfied in 2005, compared to 55 percent in fiscal year 2014, officials reported Tuesday to the mayor and city manager.

City Manager Troy Schulte also said he supported plans to reduce traffic lanes on Grand Boulevard and put in dedicated bike lanes.

The price is right. That can be done there and elsewhere just by using paint, he said.

Deb Ridgway, bicycle pedestrian coordinator for the city, noted that it has used mainly federal grants to slowly add bike lanes and bike sharrows and hiking trails.

The satisfaction numbers have tracked upward along with the additions, she noted.

They continue to add to the network as they can afford it, she said.
