What can Midtown neighborhoods do to improve their own safety?

The neighborhoods around Roanoke Park have worked together on cleaning up the park and improving play equipment. Now they're meeting to discuss potential joint efforts to increase safety and security.

The neighborhoods around Roanoke Park have worked together on cleaning up the park and improving play equipment. Now they’re meeting to discuss potential joint efforts to increase safety and security.

Residents of the neighborhoods around Roanoke Park – Coleman Highlands, Roanoke, Valentine and Volker – will discuss ideas and potential strategies for addressing crime issues at a Safety and Security meeting on Saturday, April 11.

“As residents of Coleman Highlands, Roanoke, Valentine and Volker, we’d like to bring together interested residents to brainstorm and strategize about long-term, sustainable ways to improve security. Tackling crime as a group instead of as individual neighborhoods may, we hope, provide us with more energy, resources and ideas,” the organizers say in an invitation to residents.

Planners, made up of representatives of the four neighborhoods, say the meeting will allow residents to discuss long-term safety issues and decide whether there is an interest in moving forward with a plan for addressing these issues across the four neighborhoods.

Those who are unable to attend can give input through an online survey.
