Buses will be rerouted Saturday during marathon

Speaking of the marathon on Saturday, it will also impact bus service in Midtown. Here’s the world from the Area Transportation Authority.

If getting to work this Saturday morning requires a trip by Metro bus, it’s likely your bus will be traveling an alternate route. Saturday morning, Oct. 20, the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority will reroute most Metro buses throughout Kansas City for the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon.

Metro customers are encouraged to plan ahead and travel early. Call the Regional Call Center at (816) 221-0660 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and Friday. Reroute information is posted online at www.kcata.org.  Please note that Google Transit,transit.google.com, does not incorporate reroute information.

In order to help customers travel inside the area that is surrounded by the marathon, The Metro will operate two shuttles. One will travel between Crown Center and The Plaza. The other will travel between Waldo and 50th & Oak.

Twenty-five Metro routes will be affected, including Main St. MAX and Troost MAX. Streets will be closed in Downtown, Crown Center, south Kansas City, midtown, and The Plaza. Street closures will begin at 3 a.m., and the race begins at 7:05 a.m.  Streets will reopen and buses will return to regular route as the race clears the affected areas.
