Breakfast anytime at new Westport eatery

huddle houseWestport has a new all-night diner.

Huddle House will open at 3957 Broadway Monday at 6 a.m. and once the doors open, they’ll stay open 24 hours a day.

Huddle House is a franchise with something of a southern flavor, according to general manager of the new Westport restaurant, Gabriel Jabbar. “It’s family oriented,” he says. “We want people to feel like they’re at home. If you’re looking for a nice country breakfast, we’re the place.”

The chain was started in 1964 and named, according to its website, for a football huddle. The founder, John Sparks, saw a group of boys after football practice “huddled” together talking and laughing. “It was at that moment he decided that Huddle House was the perfect name for the restaurant chain and it would be the place where folks would gather, or “huddle up,” for great food and good times after Friday night football games,” the site says.

The Westport Huddle House is the first in Kansas City, but Jabbar says the company is looking at additional locations. The new business has hired about 60 people to work in the Westport location.
