Attorney general brings urban crime summit to Kansas City

The Attorney General of Missouri is holding two urban crime summits this month, including a two-day meeting next week in Kansas City.

The Kansas City event will feature Attorney General Chris Koster, Kansas City Mayor Sly James, and KCPD Chief Darryl Forte.

The summit will focus on developing meaningful responses to the high rate of urban crime facing metropolitan areas in the state and feature criminologists and national experts.

The Summit will feature numerous speakers to examine various strategies that resulted in a dramatic decrease in New York City’s crime rate over the past decades. Commissioner Raymond Kelly of the New York City Police Department will open the Summit in Kansas City on Monday, September 16.  On Wednesday, September 17, William Bratton will speak in St. Louis.  Mr. Bratton is the only person to have previously served as both the Commissioner of the New York City Police Department and the Chief of Police of Los Angeles.  Franklin Zimring, author of “The City That Became Safe: New York’s Lessons for Urban Crime and Its Control,” will end the Summit on Thursday, September 19, in St. Louis.

The Summit is a formal symposium, with invited experts providing critical analysis of law enforcement efforts in other cities as well as locally. The Attorney General’s office says citizens are invited to attend and listen to the presentations.
