The Mid-America Regional Council is encouraging people in Midtown and throughout the Kansas City to step up their efforts at recycling.

One of the suggestions MARC has involves how to keep old mattresses out of the landfill.

There’s now a new option.  Avenue of Life, a nonprofit organization helping low-income individuals and families be independent, has a recycling and job training initiative using old mattresses.

The city helped Avenue of Life acquire an abandoned building at 5117 E. 31st Street. Residents can drop off mattresses and box springs at the facility for $5 per unit or request pick up for $10 per unit.
