A federal judge has sentenced a man with an anti-government bent to 10 years for firebombing U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver’s Midtown office.
Eric G. King, 29, pleaded guilty to using an explosive device to commit arson.
From a media release by federal prosecutors:
On Sept,11, 2014, at 2:52 a.m., King broke a window and threw two Molotov cocktails at Cleaver’s office at 101 W. 31st St.
Video footage showed him throw a hammer through the west widow, light the bombs, throw them and sprint away.
There was no fire damage to the building.
Detectives were investigating King in connection with a series of nearby anti-government actions over the Labor Day weekend.
Those included spray painting anti-government/anarchy graffiti on a bank.
His social media posts included things like, “KC Fight Back celebrated its first labor day with a lovely variety of action, action and more action against a series of government and Financial properties.”
Another post: “These cops aren’t going to kill themselves, get to the streets.”
And a post just before the office attack: “KC Fight Back has been in serious in its Insurrection activity, and that is the thing that is giving me the most pride in my life.”
