Alert: Buses rerouted for marathon on Saturday

waddell-and-reed-marathonIf you use the bus to get to work on Saturday, your bus might be using an alternate route this weekend because of the big Waddell & Reed marathon. The Area Transportation Authority says it will reroute most metro buses throughout Kansas City during the race.

Here’s advice from the ATA:
Metro customers are encouraged to plan ahead and travel early. To help customers the day of the race, the Regional Call Center at (816) 221-0660 will add special Saturday hours, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Call Center is also open weekdays from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Reroute information is posted online at www.kcata.org.  Please note that Google Transit, transit.google.com, does not incorporate reroute information.

In order to help customers travel inside the area that is surrounded by the marathon, The Metro will operate two shuttles. One will travel between Crown Center and 11th & Wyandotte. The other will travel between Waldo and The Plaza.

Twenty Metro routes will be affected, including Main St. MAX and Troost MAX. Streets will be closed in Downtown, Crown Center, south Kansas City, Midtown, and The Plaza. Street closures will begin at 3 a.m., and the race begins at 7:05 a.m.  Streets will reopen and buses will return to regular route as the race clears the affected areas.
